Before creating a KBE, it is important to prepare a Windows 10 or Windows 11 system and some drivers. (An isolated system is recommended for the creation of KBEs, as antivirus software can interfere with KBE build process.)

  1. Set up a VM that can reach the Kace System Deployment Appliance that has the following tools:
    - Windows 11 ADK
    - WinPE Addon (this has recently changed - so make sure that you have WinPE add on as well)

  2. a. Go to the Kace SDA Samba Share Driver folder and backup the following folders:
        - \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x64
        - \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x86
        - Note: In some case, you might use those drivers to re-create KBE for previous version of Windows.
    b. Delete all folders and files inside those folders
    c. Download the latest Dell WinPE 10 Driver pack, extract the CAB using WinRAR or 7-Zip, then copy the folders inside as follow:
        - the extracted x64 folder to \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x64
        - the extracted x86 folder to \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x86 
        - Here is how it should look like:

        - Re-cache the drivers in Kace SDA console in “Settings | Appliance Maintenance”

  3. a. From SDA UI, go to “Library | Source Media | Media Manager” and download the Kace SDA Media Manager

    Open Media Manager in “General Settings” tab and complete the fields accordingly: 
    - SDA host name
    - IP address 
    - Samba share password.

    Click: Test connection.

    b. Under “Create KBE” tab, you will find several other tabs containing a group of settings that you can use to create a KBE, each group of settings can be modified as needed.

    Usually default settings will work to “Upload KBE”.
