Create KBE 9.X

KBE 9.0 – 9.1 – 9.2 (Oct 15, 2024)

Before creating a KBE, it is importantcrucial to prepare a Windows 10 or Windows 11 system and some drivers. (AnIt's recommended to use an isolated system is recommended for the creation of KBEs,system, as antivirus software can interfere with the KBE build process.)

Steps to Create a KBE:

1. Set upUp a VM
   Ensure that the VM can reachconnect to the KaceKACE System Deployment Appliance that(SDA) and has the following tools:
   -installed:

   • Windows 11 ADK
     -
   • WinPE Addon (this hasis recentlynow changed - sorequired, make sure thatit’s youinstalled)
   have
   WinPE add on as well)
   
   

2. Backup and Update Drivers
   a. Go to the KaceKACE SDA Samba Share Driver folder and backupback theup followingthese folders:directories:
       - \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x64
       - \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x86


   -

   Note: InYou somemay case,need you might use thosethese drivers to re-createrecreate a KBE for previous versionversions of Windows.
   

   b. Delete all folders and files inside thosethe foldersabove directories.
   c. Download the latest KBE Driver Pack from Dell WinPESupport. 10 Driver pack, extractExtract the CAB file using 7-Zip or WinRAR or(Windows' 7-Zip,default thenextractor won't work). Then, copy the folders inside as follow:

   • Copy the extracted x64 folder toto: \\KaceSDA\KaceSDA_IP\drivers\kbe_windows_x64

   • Copy the extracted x86 folder toto: \\KaceSDA\KaceSDA_IP\drivers\kbe_windows_x86

       -d. Re-cache the drivers in Kacethe KACE SDA console inby “going to Settings |→ Appliance Maintenance”
   
   Maintenance.

3. Use the Media Manager
   a. FromIn the SDA UI, gonavigate to “Library |→ Source Media |→ Media Manager”Manager, and download the KaceKACE SDA Media Manager tool.
   
   

   Open

   Openthe Media ManagerManager, ingo “to the General Settings”Settings tabtab, and completefill out the fieldsfollowing:

   • SDA hosthostname
   name

   • IP address
   
   -
   • Samba share password.password
     
     
     Click

     Click: Test connection.
     

     Connection.

   b. UnderIn “the Create KBE”KBE tab, you willyou’ll find several other tabs containing a group ofdifferent settings thatgroups youfor cancustomizing usethe toKBE createcreation process. Typically, the default settings work for uploading the KBE.

For more details on creating a KBE, each group of settings can be modified as needed. 

Usually default settings will workrefer to “Upload KBE”.
